High school seniority is bittersweet for a plethora of reasons. While each student focuses on differing current and future goals, it can be easy to overlook the importance of enjoying the final ride. Luckily, the community here at WCHS effortlessly strives to make every senior class feel special, one of those efforts being the annual WCHS Senior Sunrise.
On the morning of October 11th, WCHS Seniors gathered together on the track to celebrate the final school year with donuts, company, and a beautiful sunrise. This was all thanks to the WCHS Senior Class President, Lailah Ashburn, who worked tirelessly to organize this event since early September.
“Originally, we were going to do Senior Sunrise before fall break. The hurricane knocked us out the first time around, but it was extremely important to me to make this happen. As seniors, our memories and time spent together matters more than ever before.” -Lailah Ashburn
This year, Senior Sunrise could not have gone better. Students gathered in circles with blankets, comfy shoes, and smiles to make some of the best memories yet. Pictures were taken, laughs were shared, and a beautiful sunrise witnessed it all.
Next year, the WCHS class of 2025 will be elsewhere: whether at college or in the workforce, they will be making a difference in this world. In May they will say goodbye to this chapter and begin the unwritten. At a closing point such as this one, taking part in a sense of community is important. Grab it while you can, Yellowjackets!
