A&E is the life of creativity. Art, movies, games, books, songs, and stories are how we express ourselves. However, writing an A&E article and making it professional and entertaining is difficult. As the Creative Journalism Editor, I wish to provide two ideas for all future reporters and people wanting to write something related to A&E. These should not be followed to the exact words as though I may be writing about them, I am not the end-all-be-all of being creative.
1. It’s key to pick a good and interesting topic. Be it the Emmy Awards or a Travel Overview, it should engage not only the reader but also yourself. An A&E article is about your interests and having a topic you don’t like can be rough to even begin on. So always think “Is this something I’m interested in?” or “Will people be interested in this topic?”. It’s something I’ve faced many times while writing my Overview of Character Writing and it’s a fear that will be common when writing about a niche topic like writing.
2. Consider that A&E is truly just Creative Journalism. What I mean is that you can put your short story, your poem, your grandmother’s recipe, or even your workshop movie if you’re feeling motivated. A&E is all about inspiration and ways to use them. There will always be something you find that you want to write about you need to grab onto that inspiration and run wild with motivation.
Be creative with your topics, choose anything that interests you but be mindful of what makes a good article topic. A&E is about your inspiration and interests and how you want to tell your tale. You never have to use what I preach but if you’re starting as a fresh Jacket Journal contributor with bright eyes ready to take on the world, then do consider these and never stop writing.
