As of September 5th, 2024, the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals in New York has ruled against the Internet Archive site. The Internet Archive is an archive of many ebooks, software, music, and websites with the purpose of preservation. However, the Association of American Publishers sued them for unauthorized distribution of books. This decision has led to the Internet Archive being forced to remove many books from their library.
Many actions have been taken against the Internet Archive, as early as 2008. The main concern about the Internet Archive is that anyone can scan and upload any book. This is something that sadly does happen a lot of the time and is the main problem publishers have with them. The Internet Archive contains many old items with the goal of simply preservation. The website also hosts over 800 billion snapshots of web pages, if the Internet Archive were sued for this too, I think the survival of the Internet Archive would be treacherous.
