Recently, the newest iOS update has been unveiled and with it a change that will forever affect Apple. The update’s features come out of the lawsuit with the European Union. In this article, I will cover the features coming to all iPhones in IOS 17.4.
The first and most important change is the ability for iOS users to use other apps from different marketplaces. What this means is that alternative app stores including ones like altstore which allow for sideloading. This means that Google could make an app similar to the Play Store and add the ability for app developers to also publish on that app store. Realistically this probably won’t happen, and even if it does, people in the EU will be the only ones to actually get these app stores.
Another change reportedly coming to iOS is the ability to download actual web browsers. Previously you could only get the stripped-down version due to Apple’s previous policies. This means that you can finally install extensions in browsers like Firefox or Chrome. While this feature may not affect some, others would be overjoyed by it.
Overall, iOS 17.4 is probably not going to affect many people who actually would read this article. That being said, the fact that Apple is overcomplicating this shows where their priorities remain, in their ability to make money.
