Art: Something created with imagination and skill that is beautiful or expresses important ideas or feelings.
The arts are essential to us as humans for various reasons. It helps us connect with others, express ourselves, understand the world, and is a crucial part of our culture. Art can be anything from drawing a picture to designing a building. Therefore, pretty much anything can be art.
The arts need to be more represented and protected in school systems. I believe this because arts programs don’t get funding like other school programs which causes issues like children not being able to express themselves and they won’t be able to establish their creative skills. The arts are needed so children can be well-rounded as they grow up. So, schools must find ways to start focusing on and funding their arts programs. This includes visual arts, floral design, theatre programs, dance, photography, graphic design, architecture, music, creative writing, etc.
Arts programs being represented in school systems is very important to me because students who are gifted, like me, deserve to have a place to express their talents and ideas by doing what they love. Once I got to middle school, art was not required and it was an elective. Once covid hit in 2020, I was in 6th grade and I didn’t have an actual art class until 8th grade. I still did dance during this time but I didn’t have an art class to work on visual arts. I also think students who are gifted should be placed in classes that will help them express themselves and their talents.
I also believe art should be mandatory in schools at least in elementary school. Since art is all around us, learning about it and establishing creative skills at a young age is crucial. Even though creative skills may be harder for some people to learn, it is still important to have knowledge of the arts. As students get older, they can choose their own path as to what they want to do in school and work but I think learning about the arts is essential especially since art influences different aspects of the world in many ways and influences our everyday life.
Therefore, I think the arts should be protected in public schools and used to express ourselves as well as to inspire the world!
