If you just happened to be looking up anytime between January 28th and February 4th you might have just seen a larger than normal balloon floating around. But this wasn’t just any old balloon, no. This, was a spy balloon – or at least some believe.

January 28th –

An unidentified flying object (UFO!) entered United States airspace, just north of Alaska.

January 30th –

The UFO entered Canadian airspace, becoming Canada’s problem, not ours.

January 31st –

The UFO reentered United States airspace, becoming our problem yet again.

February 1st –

The UFO was identified first by civilians at approximately 4:20 EST, which was the first recorded citing of what was now known as a balloon. At this point, word was released that the balloon had originated in no other place but China.

February 2nd –

A Pentagon spokesman informed the public of the UFO in the morning. This was the first time the public was informed of the incident by the U.S. government. The spokesman stated that the object was far above commercial traffic and “does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground.” President Biden also stated that a take down will ensue “as soon as the mission could be accomplished without undue risk to American lives under the balloon’s path.”

February 3rd –

China publicly apologized for the

“mistake” of letting their “weather balloon” wander off course. This statement, however, was immediately refuted by government officials, stating that it was obvious the balloon was intended for surveillance rather than weather research.

February 4th –

President Biden ordered the military to shoot down the balloon after it had made it all the way across the U.S., in order to avoid harm to people on the ground. At approximately 2:3

9 p.m. the balloon was shot down over the Atlantic, just east of the South Carolina
