Calling All Gamers!
WCHS starts a new Esports team.
On November 7th, Woodford County High School decided to create Esports teams for their students. Esports is usually a multiplayer video game that is played competitively for spectators, typically by professional gamers. Esports has been around for as long as multiplayer games have.
The three videogames that were accepted by the state and WCHS are League of Legends, Rocket League, and SMITE. League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena video game that was developed and published by Riot Games. Rocket League is a multiplayer video game where you control a vehicle of your choice. This game was developed and published by Psyonix. Their first take on the video game was called SARPBC (Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars). SMITE is a free-to-play, third-person videogame developed by Hi-Rez Studios. In SMITE, players control a god, goddess, and other mythical characters and take part in team-based combat.
There will be a spring season and a fall season for the Esports teams. The spring season starts in February, and the fall season ended late this past September. There is no set schedule, but the Esports team plans on having their schedule set before February.
