The One We Crave: Dr. Pepper Thursday
A small WCHS student tradition centered around a mutual love for Dr. Pepper
Every Thursday, some WCHS students come together to express their love for Dr. Pepper. On “Dr. Pepper Thursday”, as it is dubbed, its participants celebrate it by donning apparel branded with Dr. Pepper, usually a t-Shirt. While the tradition started last school year (2017-18), it was during the 2018-19 year that Dr. Pepper Thursday really hit its stride, with more students participating than ever before.
How did it start?
On one fateful day, Peyton Hall (12) accidentally wore his Dr. Pepper T-shirt on two Thursdays in a row. When another classmate pointed it out to him, the idea to do it every Thursday emerged. One by one, his friends begun to participate in it, until it has reached the 10-person lineup “Dr. Pepper Thursday” has today.
Why do they do it?
It’s simple – they love Dr. Pepper. In a world dominated by Coke and Pepsi, it’s the unique taste of a cold Dr. Pepper that draws these students to it. It’s not uncommon for these students to crack open a can of Dr. Pepper to enjoy during each lunch block on Thursdays. Wearing the Dr. Pepper logo weekly allows the students to express this. They hope to reach 100% attendance for Dr. Pepper Thursday, but that day has eluded them thus far, as someone always forgets to wear their shirt.
Can I join?
Yes! Anyone is welcome to share their love for the Dr. Pepper soft drink by wearing its memorabilia on a Thursday. The members of Dr. Pepper Thursday are always acceptive and excited for new faces and encourage others to partake in the day.
