Ms. Wu Has Come A Long Way And We Are Hoping She Is Here To Stay

Ms. Wu traveled all the way from China to the United States and arrived only one month ago! She has been an English as a Second Language teacher in China for 24 years and this school year will be Ms.Wu’s 25th year of teaching. In order to become a qualified English teacher in China, Ms. Wu attended Qingdao Normal University and Shandong Normal University. After graduating, she received a Masters Degree in English Education and obtained another Master Degree after studying courses related to TCFL at Shandong University.

When asked why she became a Chinese teacher, the answer was simple: “Like other languages, Chinese is, first of all, a tool of communication. If more people can learn to speak Chinese, China will be known to more people in the world. In addition, Chinese is different from other languages, it is not only a tool of communication but also a cultural heritage.” Ms. Wu’s favorite aspect of teaching is that through her efforts “more and more foreign students will get interested in learning Chinese and get a full knowledge and insight into China.” On another note, Ms. Wu enjoys reading books, listening to music, and writing calligraphy. She would also like to “take advantage of my staying here [in the United States] to go to more places to see and learn during my holidays.”

In the next five years, Ms. Wu “would like to observe and gain insights into the culture and civilization differences between China and the US, and write them down to create a book which will help people of the two countries learn from each other and get a mutual understanding about each other.” She hopes to make a contribution to the mutual understanding and tolerance of the two countries and what better way to start than teaching students Chinese at WCHS!
