Girls Basketball Players Speak Their Minds
On November 17th, the Woodford county women’s basketball team showed us what they were made of at the annual Jacket Madness. The team moved quickly, worked hard, and most importantly worked together. Along with a new team and season the Woodford County’s women’s team has a new coach, Coach Jaco. Coach Jaco has worked with the girls all preseason to make sure he knows each player as an individual as well as a team player. Some players have talked to us and let us know how they have transitioned with a new team and coach.
Peyton has played basketball for 12 years, 4 which have been at Woodford County High School, she says, ” I’m excited for the up coming season, its very refreshing and we have a lot of new content to cover.” Peyton believes her team will be successful and her goals for this team are to win district and make it to regionals. “Being one of the 3 seniors I know the underclassman look up to us, sometimes its a lot of pressure, but if we all work together we will be alright.”

Junior: Savannah Karbach
Savannah has played basketball for 6 years and this year will be her third year on the high school team. Savannah loves the way coach Jaco coaches and makes everyone feel welcomed. “He really cares about us, he works with us individually and wants to knows
as people, not just players.” “This year we are learning the right ways to play basketball,
we play harder and want to win more games.” Aside from winning more games Savannah hopes that her team will make it to districts and give other teams a run for their money.
Sophomore: Kayla Harlow
Kayla has played basketball since she was in third grade, Kayla is very excited to have a new coach. “He hasn’t coached us for that long and I think he’s already whipped us into shape and he made a lot closer as a team we are like a family now.” Kayla looks up to her upperclassmen and also has the same goals, have a winning season and make it to regionals.
Freshman: Devan Champion
Devan has played basketball for six years and this will be her first year playing on the Woodford county High school team. “This is honestly one of the closest teams I’ve been on, as a freshman I was nervous to be the youngest on the team, but everyone is so welcoming and kind.” “What I like about coach Jaco is that he doesn’t focus on teaching one position he goes over all of them so everyone knows what they are doing.”
The girl’s team wants to welcome everyone to all of their games and wishes their competition the best of luck!
