Clairo

I attended the second show of Clairo’s Sling tour at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 17th. Being able to finally see Clairo live was so redeeming for me, seeing as her music has helped me through many tough times in the last 2 years.

I discovered Clairo during the first Covid-19 lockdown and automatically connected with not only the sound of her music but also the lyrics in her songs. In her first album, Immunity, she includes songs about her struggles with her rheumatoid arthritis and how she overcame it. I also struggle with a rare disorder that has affected my everyday life and has hindered my athletic dreams, so hearing another young person talk about their struggles was really enlightening and made my connection to Clairo’s music even stronger.

Her second album, Sling, focuses on the struggles that Clairo has faced within the music industry. Sling has a very different sound than Immunity, which reflects the personal growth that Clairo had during the pandemic.

During the small amount of time that I wasn’t crying and screaming the lyrics to Clairo’s songs, I was able to take some pictures and videos of the concert.

  • Clairo has always been very vocal about how much she appreciates the members of her band. Clairo posted this picture of the band on her Instagram with the caption, “THE SLING TOUR BAND!”

  • Arlo Parks was the opening artist for Clairo. She performed songs from her new album, “Collapsed in Sunbeams which Clairo helped produce. Parks brought an energetic feel to the auditorium and had the whole crowd on their feet.

  • Clairo played either the guitar or the piano for every song which added a more intimate feel to the show. In this picture, she is playing the guitar riff for her song Zinnias along side her guitarist Hayley.

  • During the song Harbor (my pick for the saddest song on Sling) fans whipped out their phone flashlights and swayed them side to side to add to the emotion that the song portrays. This album came out during a really emotional time for me so hearing this song live really touched me.

  • Even though this tour is for the album Sling, she still performed songs from her first album. I was very happy to see her sing the song North, which is one of my all time favorite songs ever.

  • This shows the wide range of merchandise that was sold at the show. I purchased the Sling hoodie and I wear it all the time!

  • The line for Clairo’s merchandise was at least 2 hours long. I ended up having to miss four songs in order to get my sweatshirt, but it was totally worth it!
