Science with Ms. Gadberry!

Meet Miss Gadberry, a first year science teacher at WCHS.

What is your name, and what do you teach?

My name is Ms. Gadberry and I teach Intro to Physics and Advanced Intro to Physics.

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher, and what caused that?

So I always had a little bit of background in education, my Nana was a teacher, my mom’s a teacher. And so I always enjoyed playing school as a little kid but right after High school I went and got an Engineering degree, and so I practiced engineering for a couple of years. And within that field, I discovered that I really liked the education side of being able to teach people how to use medical devices or different technology. So after a couple of years working in the engineering field, I decided to go and get my master’s in education. And then pursue education to be able to really take that calling and that passion for education and be able to teach that and share my love for science with young minds.

Where did you go to college?

So I went to the University of Louisville for my undergrad and I got a bachelor’s in bioengineering, and then I came back to Lexington and got my master’s in stem education at UK.

What does being a teacher mean to you?

So to me, I want to not only just be a teacher, I want to inspire people and help build them for success after high school. So it’s not just about the content and teaching them what matter is or how to take the mass of something I really want to teach them how to think critically and build skills that they need outside of high school, depending on what path each student individually takes.  So I want them when I’m teaching I don’t just think about teaching the content and making sure that they know how to get an A on the test, I want those skills to transpire into the real world and for them to be able to use those skills in their career and college pathway.

What made you want to come to Woodford County?

So I’ve always heard a lot of good things about Woodford County and when I was working at UK in a stem camp, Miss Best was actually one of the other camp counselors, so she talked to me about how she loved Woodford County, and so I kind of started to look um last year there weren’t any openings and so this year I was really excited when there was an opening to be able to apply and get to work in Woodford County I’ve heard the community is great, the school is great. There’s always been positive feedback, and so I’m really excited to be a part of this family.

How many years have you been teaching?

This is my second year teaching.

Where did you teach before you taught at Woodford?

I taught at George Rogers Clark in Winchester.

How do you like Woodford County High school so far?

I really like the staff and the other teachers the faculty and staff are really supportive, and they really want you to succeed, they will give you all of the tools and skills that you need to be a successful teacher. The students are respectful and have I can tell that there’s a passion for learning and being able to succeed in the classroom. So, so far, I’m very happy, very pleased to be here.

What is one quote/ saying or motto that you like to live by or really like?

One thing that I’ve always said is to the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world. So you never really know whose life you’re going to impact on a daily basis, so I like to kinda live by that or think that this world has tons and tons of people, but you never know who you might impact each day. So I know I can’t reach all of my students on the exact same level, but I know each day there is one student that might need a little bit more of a push or something that I can give to them and help support them.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I do a lot of home renovations and crafting, so I really enjoy being hands-on with things, whether that be painting to make different decorations. We’ve been building on a property, so doing a lot of hands-on work to build on our property; so I really like to be hands-on I like to stay active and go on walks with my dog; I really enjoy going to the lake in the summertime.
