Born and Raised Since ’64: Peter Fisher

Since October 25th, 1964, Peter Fisher has lived in Woodford County for slightly less then half his life.

What is your favorite memory of Woodford County?

For me, it was the swim team. There weren’t many of us at the time, it was a much smaller team then it is now. All of the kids on the team swam year-round and the only meets we would swim for the high school were the regional and state meets. The Agriscience teacher at the time would drive us on a bus to both of those meets.

What is one of your favorite things to do in Woodford County?

I like so much in Woodford County. The Holly Hill Inn, I like to eat there a lot. Walking around Midway is always fun. Even though it is a small town, it is fun to get out and walk around the town. I like to go to falling springs when I can.

What makes you smile?

My family and my dogs. Getting done with work makes me smile. It doesn’t help now that I have to work from home.

What is your favorite activity/hobby?

I love to workout and go running. I like to run in 10k’s in Lexington and Midway. I also love to travel. My favorite place to travel would be South Carolina, I wouldn’t miss it for anything.

What is one of your favorite moments with your friends in Woodford County?

I was alive and in Woodford county for the blizzard of 1977 – 1978. There was a winter in which we got 6 weeks off of school. We were able to dig out igloos in the snow and Turner street was filled with kids back then, there were a lot of us. We would all get together and go sledding, have snowball fights, etc. It was a really fun time.

What would you say to people just moving to Woodford County?

I would tell them not to miss Keeneland and the two bourbon places. Castle and Key and Woodford Reserve. Both of those places are great and going early in the morning to Keeneland to get breakfast and watch them train the horses is awesome.

What is one of your favorite stories from Woodford County?

There was a ghost in an old house. Someone was murdered there in real life and the Leemans used the house for storage and it became rundown. When we were kids, we would run past the house, and on Halloween, we would run past the house scared thinking the ghosts were out. Some kids were brave enough to go up and into the house, but I never did.
