Ms.Brown Revolutionizes Woodford County

A new history teacher arrives at Woodford

Hope Brown is a US History teacher, and she started her 16th year of teaching this August. “Most of my time teaching was in my hometown, Morehead, Kentucky at Rowan County Senior High School, but the last four years was at Grant County. Besides teaching, I also work for the Lexington Legends and Rupp Arena. I have a 14-year-old daughter who attends Rowan County Senior High School and two sons who are adults. My oldest son teaches English in Rowan County. He will be his little sister’s 9th grade English teacher. My husband and I also own a historical touring company, Stone Fences Tours, which focus on the history of central Kentucky,” Ms. Brown said.

Ms. Brown did not become a teacher until later in life, saying, “It was not until my son had to overcome a learning disability that I really became interested in teaching. His 4th-grade teacher made such a difference in his life. She gave him confidence and helped him get to grade level. One day he told me that, ‘In God’s eyes she is my mom too.’ That statement had such an impact on me. It made me want to be able to do for other kids what Ms. Hitch had done for my son.”

Ms. Brown has been commuting 1 hour and 15 minutes one way to Grant County High School. “Even though I loved my school and my students, my family was suffering because I spent so much time every day on the road. I was very excited to see that Woodford had an opening. I knew that Woodford had a great reputation and Versailles is such a pretty town,” she said.

Ms. Brown had a few questions for WCHS, so if you have her tell her or go see her in room 101. The questions are as follows:

“What team is the big sports rival for WCHS?”

“What game is the one that I absolutely must see?”

“I am excited to get to know the students of Woodford. I miss my students very much but hope to grow great relationships with kids here,” she said. Woodford County is lucky to have a teacher as dedicated and helpful as Ms. Brown.
