Velonis Q&A

Where did you work before WCHS?

So, I am actually a first-year teacher but I did my student teaching at Lafayette High School.

Why did you want to work at WCHS?

I had a lot of friends in my graduate school program that really spoke highly of Woodford County, and people that have taught here said it would be a really good fit for me.

How has the transition been?

It’s different. I really like a lot of the supports that we have set up here. It’s obviously more of a “rule” community with a different demographic, so, that’s just something I’ve had to learn as I go on, but other than that it’s been relatively smooth.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in a small farm town called Tully, New York.

When did you move to Kentucky?

I moved to Kentucky in 2010. I went to Berea College for undergrad.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

I like to play role-playing games: Dungeon, and Dragons, Pathfinder, White Wolf.

How do you feel about WCHS?

I think it’s a really strong program with lots of support. I think things like HIVE and the teacher training I’m going through with the district and just the dedicated teachers here.

When and why did you decide you wanted to teach?

I’ve wanted to teach for a long time now. When I was in high school I felt that I eventually wanted to be a teacher. I felt that I had a rough time in high school, and I want to be here for others that are having a hard time.

What’s your favorite color?

Green.

What’s something interesting about yourself?

I play the ukulele.
