Chatting with Ms. Church
A new school year means new students, new opportunities and different classes, but most importantly, new teachers. Ms. Church is one of the new Special Education teachers. And here is a look at how this new teacher is settling into Woodford.
This is Church’s first year at Woodford, but she also worked in the Fayette County school system before deciding to teach in Woodford County. Church taught for three years prior to here and before teaching Ms. Church was a paraprofessional for 10+ years. When asked why she decided to become a teacher, Church said,
Ms. Church teaches in the Special Education department and when asked why Church said, “I teach Special Education because I understand how [these student’s] brain’s works and usually how to get them to understand a concept.”
Many teachers want their students to be able to grow and succeed. Teachers often leave a lesson or impact their students in some positive way. When asked what lesson she would like to leave her students with Church said, “To never stop asking questions. And it is okay to fail, failing several times means we learn and will eventually be successful.” In five years, Church hopes to see herself still teaching, but also with more time for traveling. Her favorite aspect of teaching would have to be “That every day is a new day and a chance to learn something new. No day is exactly the same and we learn from the past.”
WCHS welcomes Ms. Church and cannot wait for the new ideas and creativity she will bring to this new school year! A message she has for WCHS is: .
