The 1990’s Run For the Gold
What were the 1990's like at WCHS?
During the 1990’s, Stan Watts was in charge of The Jacket Journal until 2008 when he retired. The teacher who took over was Dan Ruff. He made changes so that The Jacket Journal came in color.
This is an Insert from a 1990’s The Jacket Journal:
“Versailles needs a movie theater”
“Whether you’re looking for a romantic evening with your boyfriend or girlfriend, just something to do with your friends, or heaven forbid, a place to take the family, the movie theater is often a greater place to go. For everyone in Versailles, there is a choice — you can go to Frankfort or Lexington, but this isn’t the choice that we should have. Why can’t we go to a movie theater in Versailles? Well, duh, because there isn’t one, but there really should be!
There’s no questions that Versailles should have a movie theater, and there’s no question that Versailles could support a movie theater. In fact, nine out of ten people I asked said that they would go to a movie theater in Versailles if Versailles had a movie theater, and the one that said she wouldn’t explained that Frankfort is a shorter drive for her, but that if she lived closer to Versailles, she would. So, why Don’t we have a movie theater? Probably because most people think we’re too small a town to support one, but as I’ve said that’s not true anymore.
This first question that comes to mind on this subject is where would we put a movie theater. The answer is obvious. Without Kroger, the Woodford Plaza has been struggling and a movie theater is the thing to bring it back to life. Maybe, even the old Kroger building could be converted into a theater. The parking lot is already there and so is the building. For that matter, the old K-Mart building is another possible location.
The second question is, which part of the population should a theater cater to. I think most of the patrons would be teenagers, but some of the adult residents of Woodford County have also optimum situation the theater would offer movies suitable for many different age groups.
All Versailles needs, is a person to rent the space and convert it. Anyone rich enough to build a theater can afford to lose a little money in the beginning, and I really feel that, given enough time, a movie theater in Versailles could truly prosper!”
