Human Rights Campaign (HRC)

"Equality for All, Not for Some"

About

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is a foundation that is striving for a discriminatory-free world for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. Their main focus is to inspire and engage individuals in order to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and to come to the full realization of a world that achieves acceptance and understanding rather than just tolerance. HRC has over 3 million supporters and members nationwide, and have spent over 40 years advocating for LGBTQ+ equality

History

HRC was established in 1980 by Steve Endean and was originally known as the Human Rights Campaign Fund. The foundation began as a fund for supporting pro-equality congressional candidates, due to the small amount of openly LGBTQ+ officials in the early days of establishment. HRC was rebranded in 1995 to reflect the quickly expanding programs, and eventually became known as one of the most effective and mainstream advocacy programs in the US.

Get Involved

Overall, HRC is a great place for newcomers and allies to get active in their community, complete with several different ways anyone can show up for LGBTQ+ rights. Clicking here will take you directly to their website- specifically their join page-so you can get involved too!
