Emily Jetton
Emily is a Senior that has been part of the Cross Country and Track team for WCHS for multiple years. I wanted to highlight her, along with other seniors on the Track Team, by asking her about her experiences and memories that she cherishes from her time with Woodford County. Here’s what she said!
Q- What is your name, and what events do you do for track?
A- “My name is Emily Jetton. I run the 100m dash, 200m dash, 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay, 4x400m relay, and occasionally compete in shotput.”
Q- When did you start doing track?
A- “I ran Girls on the Run and did various 5k’s all through elementary school but joined the WCMS track team in 8th grade.”
Q- What is your favorite memory from your time on the track team?
A- “Mine was probably indoor track Sophomore year. The team was smaller and it was easier to get to know my teammates more personally and I enjoyed running through the halls and working on strength training in the weight room.”
Q- What is a lesson that you’ve learned from your time on the team?
A- “I learned to not quit. As a sophomore, I was third-string for my relay teams. This year, I am first string and setting a PR almost every week. If you show up to practice every day and put in the work, the coaches notice and reward you for that.”
String refers to the order of handoff in the relay. Emily started out being the third person to receive the baton, but has now become the first person, which is a mark of improvement since the two fastest people in the relay usually are 1st and 4th.
Q- What are some of your goals for this track season?
A- “It’s my last season, so I just want to have fun with it. The pressure is off since I already earned Varsity, so now I get to relax and enjoy racing with my team.”
Q- What are your post-graduation plans?
A- “I am attending the University of Louisville to double major in sports management and marketing. I hope to be able to work on the marketing teams of professional sports teams.”
Emily also has an amazing GPA at 3.97, along with many extracurriculars. These include club softball, Yearbook, volunteering, involvement in school clubs, and attending her church’s youth group. Emily has been a wonderful person to have on the team, and the entire team will miss her dearly!
