The students and faculty of Woodford County High will be saying farewell to the old high school that was built in 1963 and heading to a new state-of-the-art high school at the end of 2024. Students attending the current high school have seen a decline in the facility that served many students over the last 61 years. There have been numerous renovations and updates to the current location. After a lot of community meetings with the school board, it was voted that the current Woodford County Middle School build a new high school building.
Some of the new features of the new high school will offer an open, bright library for reading and studying and a media center. For those involved in theater or music, there will be an auditorium that will be able to seat 420 individuals. No more play or concert productions in the cafeteria. The gymnasium also known as The Hive will be the new home of the Fighting Yellow Jackets. Students will be able to show their school spirit during pep rallies and sporting events but also feel proud to have any visitor enter the space knowing the Jackets are being represented in this new space.
The Hive will have a HUGE seating capacity, standing at 2062 (the total capacity of the school is 1400)! This allows for more comfortable seating and a more spaced-out gym, although that may be impacted when visitors come. Either way, this is a big upgrade from the current gym! The Hive is a new and improved gym, home to the fighting jackets.
In summary, the new school will be a much better and larger building for the Jackets. From the auditorium to The Hive, this school will have much more potential for students AND the teachers. The new building will have a huge impact on the students.
