Treats for your Halloween Party

Strawberry Ghosts

Takes 45 minutes 

Ingredients for 24: 

  • Vanilla Candy Coating 16 oz.
  • 24 Strawberries
  • Mini Chocolate Chips
  1. Use a microwavable tray to melt the Candy Coating in the microwave for the amount of time stated on the package
  2. Lay wax paper on a flat surface
  3. Dip a Strawberry in the melted candy coating
  4. Set the Coated Strawberry on the wax paper
  5. Allow the excess coating to drip off and create the ‘tail’ of the ghost
  6. Slide the strawberry back to create the motion of ‘tail’ with the trail of excess coating
  7. Let the coating set
  8. Just before it hardens completely, place two mini chocolate chips in the coating for the eyes and one below them bottom-up for the mouth 

Frankenstein Rice Crispy Treats

Ingredients: 

  • 4 Tablespoons of butter
  • 5 cups of mini marshmallows 
  • 7 cups of Rice Krispies
  • Green Food Coloring
  • Candy Eyes (optional) 
  • 1 bag of melting chocolate
  • Paper Straws (optional)

 

  1. Melt the butter over low heat in a large pot 
  2. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted
  3. Add drops of food coloring
  4. Remove Heat and gradually add Rice Krispies until they are completely coated
  5. Use a buttered spatula or your hand to press the Krispies into a greased pan
  6. Let it cool
  7. Cut into Rectangles
  8. (Optional) before the completely cool, press in the candy eyes
  9. Melt chocolate in the microwave
  10. Dip the top of the Rice Krispie treat in the chocolate for hair
  11. Let it cool on wax paper
  12. Add a marshmallow to either side of a toothpick 
  13. Dip the marshmallow in chocolate
  14. Cut the toothpick in half and stick on either side for the ears

Candy Corn Pretzel Hugs

Ingredients:

  • Circle or Square-Shaped Pretzels
  • Hershey Kisses or Hugs
  • Candy Corn
  1. Preheat oven to 250F degrees
  2. Line baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat 
  3. Put pretzels on the baking sheet
  4. Unwrap the Hershey kisses and put one on each pretzel
  5. Stick into the oven until the kisses begin to melt down (about 4 minutes)
  6. While the hugs are melting, get your candy corn ready because you need to act quickly once the pretzels are out of the oven, while the chocolate is still hot
  7. Take the pretzels out of the oven
  8. Lightly press the candy corn into the pretzels, if it doesn’t go in easily put the pretzels back in the oven for another 30 seconds
  9. Let the pretzels cool for about 10 minutes in the refrigerator 

Spider Web Cupcakes

Takes 1 hour and 30 minutes

Ingredients for 24: 

Cupcakes

  • 1 ½ cups of sugar
  • ¼ cup of softened butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of sour cream
  • ½  cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 ½ cups of flour
  • ½ cup of unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon of salt

Frosting

  • 3 cups of powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup of softened butter
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons of milk

Glaze

  • 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips
  • 4 teaspoons of shortening

Cupcakes

  1. Preheat oven to 350F degrees
  2. Place paper baking cups into 24 muffin pan cups
  3. Mix sugar and 1/4 cup butter in a bowl until its well mixed
  4. Add eggs and continue mixing until it is creamy
  5. Add sour cream, milk, and vanilla and mix
  6. Add all remaining cupcake ingredients and mix
  7. Fill muffin cup with about 2 tablespoons of batter
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean
  9. Let the cupcakes cool

Frosting

  1. Mix powdered sugar and ¼ cup of butter in a bowl
  2. Mix while gradually adding the milk until the consistency seems right

Glaze

  1. Melt chocolate chips and shortening in 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, 3-4 minutes or until smooth
  2. Place melted chocolate in a small heavy-duty resealable plastic food bag snip a small hole in the bag’s corner

Final Steps

  1. Frost 6 cupcakes with about 1 tablespoon of frosting each
  2. Pipe 3 concentric circles in icing with chocolate
  3. Starting at the center, use a toothpick to draw 5 or 6 lines to the edge of the frosting with the chocolate from the circles
  4. Repeat with remaining cupcakes (6 at a time so the frosting doesn’t harden)
