Whether we are ready or not, spring has finally come bringing a couple of school sports with it, including Lacrosse, Tennis, and, of course, Track and Field. As the Track and Field season kicks into full gear, some new track stars have been popping up, including junior Landon Saum. Saum has been tearing up the track this year so far by conquering three different school records in hurdles.

Saum has been running track since 6th grade and only recently started doing hurdles last year. Since he started, he has been working non-stop to be the best and make faster times in hurdles. “I run the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles,” said Saum. Landon is also known as a Jack-of-All-Trades, making appearances in some of the sprinting events and even throwing the discus. However, his knack for hurdling is what has caused him to attain fame at our school.  He has earned three school records this year alone. The records are as follows: in the 110m hurdles, 15.30 seconds, the 55m hurdles: 8.35 seconds, and in the 60m hurdles: 9.32 seconds.

And Saum isn’t gonna stop there. “My goal is to make it under 15 seconds in the 110m Hurdles and to try to come 2nd in the region and 5th in the state,” said Saum. WCHS’ track team has been very successful this year with Saum being one of the top athletes. Part of what contributed to Saum’s success was that he trained consistently over the summer with a hurdling coach and spent most of his days at the track. With this season wrapping up and State around the corner, there is no doubt Saum will finish strong and have a successful season next year.
